These are the reasons I (Marie), initially began to learn Martial Arts.
I grew up in the suburbs, then moved to Manhattan, where I went to high school. Right after, I got the hell out of dodge..
The point of these, is that each one of these stories are true and time again showed how good of an idea it was for me to have taken up the martial arts. I was constantly bullied, and even, after I returned to New York shortly, My property was either burglarized or people tried to mug me. I found out, that criminals are equal-opportunity people. They will attack a man, woman or child, with the same passion. I was bullied along everyone else. Sometimes singled out, because I tried very hard to mind my own business. I went to school with a lot of different people, from different backgrounds; No one escaped. (click on title).
Do I like violence? actually, no. A lot of people that know me would disagree, because they say I get a certain glint on my eye and seem to really get into it. But what is actually happening is something I leaned about how my body operates.....actually so does yours: adrenaline. Fight or flight syndrome. If you stay to fight, you will get the shakes, you could even make mistakes if you do not learn how to manage your body at a heightened and altered state. You have to relax and go with the adrenaline. You will definitively look like you are enjoying yourself. I enjoy fights, months or years after the fact. All in all, it is good to be alive.
