A mugger in Stuttgart

Back in my days in the service I traveled a lot. Once in a while I got to stop and stay in one regular assignment, where I could relax long enough to make friends and party a little. This was one of those times.  I was assigned to an MP unit and a bunch of us went into town, as we were enjoying a 4-day pass….something that happened rarely.

One evening, we went club hopping; I was pretty comfortable with my group, and they knew I needed to just cut loose. We went to a club, and were dancing…I had a few drinks, I was pretty tipsy.  The dance floor was very large; however, someone kept bumping into me on purpose. I was not liking this. I stopped and told the person to quit messing with me, but he started teasing me. I tried my best to keep having a good time, but he kept on. I stopped, went back to our table, had a couple more, and when a song that I liked, came on, I went back to the dance floor.

I was having a great time, and boom! I was bumped so hard, I tripped and fell. There he was again; the jerk. I got up, continued on, but kept my eye on him…the moment he approached again; he met with a swift kick on the groin. Wham! A knee to the head….I was about to do the dance of death on him, but my friends pulled me off and took me out of the club. I was bouncing up and down the street, and took off running while laughing in a drunken euphoria. I really have a low tolerance to alcohol, so it really takes my self-control right off. As I stopped to catch my breath, I was pulled to a parking spot between two buildings, by someone who demanded I handed him all my money and jewelry.

I regained my balance, and started laughing. The guy made it a point to tell me he had a knife. I said, “yeah? What kind?” lemme see !  He did not have any such knife. And as he tried to grab me again, I used the wall to help me balance as I kicked him in the chest. I then decided…..Let me turn the tables on this loser!

I started fighting him, but he was an amateur…obviously this was one of his first times trying this out. I kept punching him all over…I wasn’t feeling it and was still tipsy, but the mix of adrenaline was nasty…I was hitting this guy with a barrage of closed-in punches and he was too much of a lightweight. An elbow to the side of his head laid him down. I told him, “ how much do YOU have in you? Hand over your wallet. Let’s see how much you got?” I noticed he had a medallion around his neck---“ok buddy, let’s hand over the hardware” Oh wow, an astrological sign---same as my sign” my lucky day. I let him go with enough for cab fare. “Let this be a lesson to you, no more part-timing robberies---you might meet someone like me…“

Now, I don’t know if turning the tables on him qualifies as a mugging on my part, but I made off with enough money to get me going through the evening, without spending my own money. I joined the group I was with, and they ended up having to carry my drunken body back.

Yep, I still have the medallion. Lately I’ve been thinking of wearing it, since writing this.
